Maria Whitworth
Counselor Intern
Hi, I'm Maria—an MSW graduate student who is passionate about helping families heal, connect, and thrive. I bring over two decades of experience supporting people across the lifespan, from young children to older adults, and I believe in meeting each person with compassion, respect, and practical tools that make a difference.
Before entering the mental health field, I worked as a reading interventionist with students in grades K–6, where I saw firsthand how emotional well-being affects learning and development. I hold a bachelor's degree in Gerontology with an emphasis in Social Work and a minor in Sociology. For the past 26 years, I’ve run a holistic exercise and wellness program at the Grantsville Senior Center—supporting older adults in staying mentally, physically, and socially active.
I also worked as a parent coach, where I specialized in helping caregivers navigate the complexities of foster care, adoption, trauma, anxiety, depression, and youth impacted by pornography use. I approach each family with a strengths-based mindset, honoring your lived experiences while offering support that is grounded, empathetic, and real.
As a parent of five—including a daughter adopted through foster care—I understand how layered and beautiful (and sometimes messy) family life can be. I bring both personal and professional insight into every session, and my goal is to walk alongside you as you work toward healing and growth.
If you're seeking a thoughtful, down-to-earth approach to therapy, I’d love to connect.
